I played with dough yesterday. Kneading dough is comforting, almost meditative. I tried new ratios, a bright yellow color from turmeric, and new shapes for steamed buns. The shape in the picture above is rolled like cinnamon buns with sweet red bean paste. Then this morning, I headed out early for Easter brunch and my friends tasted a-little-too-yellow, steamed, rolled buns that were not quite yet from a complete recipe.
I wanted to make a note of the day - It's Easter after all. Especially after having gone through a long, snowy winter this year, Easter marks an occasion for family and friends to get together and have relaxed brunch under the warm spring sun at least.
But the ferry disaster in South Korea happened only a few days ago on April 16th. So many lives - among them, high school students on their class trip to Jeju Island - didn't make it.
My heart goes out to everyone who's been affected by this disaster. Many questions of what if's trouble me as I go about carrying on my daily routine, a bit slower than usual. The recovery effort continues far away in Korea, but I still don't know how to make peace in my heart.
