(heart-shaped songpyeon (송편) - with purple potato powder added)
UPDATE - I was beyond excited to find out that my blog was mentioned in the 'What We Are Reading' section of the New York Times Diner's Journal after this post. I felt embarassed that many people saw my blog after the mention, feeling like unexpected guests were visiting my chaotic, humble abode to be surely disappointed.
Yet I deeply appreciate the encouragement, especially because this was a last-minute, spontaneous post I hesitated to publish, partly for the reasons that it was getting too personal, not good enough, etc., etc. It also reminded me of what this blog is about - a personal record of my own trials in Korean food. Anyway, I hate long self-congratulatory speeches that no one cares to listen to. Here is the link to where my blog is mentioned.

Yesterday's 9/11 at its 10th anniversary and today's Chuseok (추석; Korean Thanksgiving Day). Two completely different emotions meet at the realization of how little things in life should be appreciated.
I've been a holiday Catholic in recent years plus random occasional visits to church. Although I completely forgot about 9/11 in my short walk to the church, I was quickly reminded that my visit yesterday wasn't so random as soon as the mass started. A solemn ritual began and when we got to the part of singing the hymn the Prayer of St. Francis, I got all choked up.
Today, I greeted the morning of Chuseok at home by making a few songpyeon (송편) to reminisce and counting my blessings.
Happy Chuseok everyone!
