For my vacation at the end of August, I returned to Korea. It had been almost 3 years since the last time. As Seoul is ever changing, some adjustments are always due upon landing. Yet as timeless familiarity quickly sets in, I am able to relax and enjoy this busy city I grew up in. It was a fun week, catching up with old friends, meeting new ones, all in delicious places I'd wanted to go, local places I was newly introduced to, and random places I stumbled upon.
Here is a photo summary (Part 1) of my week in Korea.
Sea squirt (멍게; meong ge) bibimbap - a bite of ocean in the mouth. @ Jung Sik Dang (정식당) in 신사동 (shin sa dong)
Chilled 오미자 (omija; fruit with five flavors) tea @ 산에나물 (san ae na mul) in 삼청동 (sam cheong dong)
Then we headed to 안면도 (an myeon do), a big island on the west coast, about 3 hours by bus from Seoul...
Grilling clams (조개 구이; jo gae gu i) for the first time in Anmyeondo.
Back to Seoul, then out to 시흥 (shi heung), about an hour from Seoul, for chicken soup with toasted rice (누룽지 백숙; nu rung ji baek suk) @ 장수촌 (jang su chon) - simple, familiar flavors yet so tasty together!
Kong guksu (콩국수; noodles in soy milk) and vegetable & fruit chips @ Baru (발우공양)
Time to take a break from eating by going to 경동시장 (gyeong dong shi jang), known for selling traditional Korean herbs.
...and that covers some of my eating adventures in the first half of the week in Korea. ^_^
Next, come back for the second half of my week in Korea...
